CPF FIRE planner: retire before CPF LIFE
Find the age your money outside CPF can carry you to your CPF LIFE payouts, and see what your CPF accounts could hold at 55 and 65.
Figures in Singapore dollars (S$), from the CPF Board. The opening balances are an example: replace them with yours.
With no CPF LIFE payout counted yet, money outside CPF alone could let you stop work at age
51
On these assumptions you would have S$1,072,642 outside CPF by then, enough for the S$1,000,000 you need on the day you stop. Enter your CPF LIFE estimate from the CPF Retirement Payout Planner to see how much it takes off the pot.

Your CPF at 55 and 65
In dollars of those years, growing at this quarter's CPF rates with no new contributions, so a member still working will have more.
You turn 55 in about 2046. Retirement sums are published only up to those turning 55 in 2027, so this uses the 2027 sums (Basic S$114,100, Full S$228,200). Yours will be set nearer the time; in the published table each year's sums are higher than the year before. Your Retirement Account then holds S$180,962, above the Basic but short of the Full Retirement Sum, and S$5,000 in your Ordinary Account could be withdrawn. That amount is not counted in the answer above.
| At age | OA | SA or RA | MediSave |
|---|---|---|---|
| At age 55, before the move | S$98,317 | S$87,645 SA | S$65,734 |
| At age 55, after it | S$5,000 | S$180,962 RA | S$65,734 |
| At age 65 | S$6,400 | S$267,868 RA | S$97,302 |
Not modeled: CPF contributions, extra interest, the CPF LIFE plan you choose (use your own estimate), the property pledge, top-ups, MediSave limits and the OA transfer when payouts start. This page counts your CPF LIFE estimate as today's money; a payout that stays the same in dollars buys less each year as prices rise, so the pot shown is smaller than you may need, by more the longer the payouts run. The link carries your figures after the #, so you can save or share it. Your figures are not sent to us.
Two kinds of money: what you can reach, and CPF
Stopping work early in Singapore means living on money outside CPF for years. CPF LIFE pays from 65 at the earliest, and before that only part of your CPF can come out. So the planner asks one question of your own investments: can they cover your spending until the payouts start, and the part the payouts never cover after?
Your CPF LIFE estimate counts as income from the age you choose. The pot you need on the day you stop is the larger of two: the bridge to that age plus the share of spending CPF LIFE leaves, at your withdrawal rate, or the pot that lasts to 100 at your return. The later the payouts start, the longer the bridge.
What happens at 55, and the retirement sums
On your 55th birthday a Retirement Account opens. Savings move into it from your Special Account first, then your Ordinary Account, up to your Full Retirement Sum; the Special Account then closes and anything left in it moves to the Ordinary Account. What is in the Ordinary Account after that can be withdrawn.
The sums are fixed by the year you turn 55. For 2026: Basic S$110,200, Full S$220,400. The CPF Board announces them ahead of time; the planner uses the latest published cohort for anyone turning 55 later and says so.
CPF interest this quarter: Ordinary Account 2.5%; Special, MediSave and Retirement Accounts 4%, a floor the government has extended to the end of 2027. Rates are reviewed every quarter; the planner holds them flat.
Questions people ask
- Can I withdraw my CPF at 55?
- Only part of it. At 55, savings move from your Special Account, then your Ordinary Account, into a new Retirement Account up to your Full Retirement Sum (S$220,400 for those turning 55 in 2026). Ordinary Account savings above that can be withdrawn. If you fall short of the Full Retirement Sum, up to S$5,000 may be kept in the Ordinary Account and withdrawn.
- When do CPF LIFE payouts start?
- Any time from 65 to 70; you choose. CPF Board says payouts rise by up to 7% for each year you defer. Enter the estimate for the start age you pick; this page does not add the increase for you.
- Should my FIRE number include CPF?
- Not as spending money before the payout age: most CPF savings cannot be spent freely until CPF LIFE starts. This planner keeps CPF apart, counts CPF LIFE as income from the age you choose, and asks your money outside CPF to cover everything until then.
- Where do I get my CPF LIFE estimate?
- The CPF Board's Retirement Payout Planner estimates your monthly payout from your own balances. Stopping work stops your CPF contributions, which lowers the payout, so use an estimate that assumes no contributions after the age you plan to stop, then enter it here.
